Do you get how God created woman?

I was talking to a friend the other day at a wedding I was working and we were discussing the Bible. This man is such an inspiration for He truly longs for God's wisdom and God opens his eyes to understand His word and I was blessed to run into him and have him share this scripture about marriage.

Mark 10: 6-9
6"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 7'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

OK, so yes you may have read it, heard it and certainly hear it at nearly every wedding ceremony performed by a preacher, but did you read it close and go back to the reference from which Mark quoted. Here is where Joel shared the most amazing insight I have had in a long time from the Bible and the most amazing insight ever into the marriage relationship. When he shared this with me it was like a light bulb went on and all he had to do was remind me of the account of creation of man and I understood without him even explaining.

Genesis 1:26-27 26Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Genesis 2:20-23
20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man."

Well, maybe you already know this, but allow me my enthusiasm in the understanding of what Adam-- man was in the beginning before woman was created-- He was male and female. God took Eve from Adam. They were one being. God separated them and made them a pair. Now when we get married we reunite our bodies back into one! This is why God hates divorce. This is why a marriage in the eyes of God is only male and female. He did not take a man out of Adam. There is a reason why he took woman from Adam. He divided him in half (so to speak) and the two halves were very important to one another-- enough so that God changed His original design to make this whole into two symbiotic halves. He did not just make another Adam clone (a second man in its original design), nor did He find an animal which was suitable for his help mate, instead He just divided what He made and it was "very good".

OK so are you as excited as I am about this or are you thinking, "Holy cow, I can't believe this just dawned on her?" Well please don't comment that I am an idiot-- I know this full and well to not be true, but I am slow and admit that I need God's insight and Him to open my eyes to understand His Word. Without Him, I am an idiot!

  1. I see the light too. I also need help understanding God's Word sometimes. And I have never looked at it this way before I can't wait to share this with my huby. Thanks R

  2. hadn't thought of it that way before, although i'd always wondered about "male and female he created them" coming before the creation of woman. interesting.
